Another Brave Volunteer is Zombified!

The scientists deep within the bowels of B'hold Designs haven't seen daylight in so long, they're a little lonely. So when someone stops by and willingly subjects themselves to the zombification process, they get positively giddy!

Introducing my friend, Kitty, an American citizen living in the Netherlands! She's a talented lady with screenwriter, director, model, actor, and voiceover  work on her resume (check out her website). She's also a great motivator and all around pal.

And now she's a zombie.

Make Up Tips for Halloween!

Hey everyone!

It's April 26, and you know what THAT means. Only a little over  six months until Halloween! I know! I can't believe it either!

Now, I'm sure that since you are all devoted fans of all things undead, you are all planning on decaying yourselves and prowling your neighborhoods as zombies again this year, correct? Of course it is.

Only one problem... how the heck do we make some kick-butt zombie make-up like our pals on AMC's The Walking Dead?? Relax... they're here to help.

Enjoy.

"House" of the Dead

I have to admit, I've never sat down and watched a complete episode of Fox's show "House." I've been told many times that it's great, and I need to DVR it. But for some reason I haven't yet. I don't have anything against it. In fact, I happen to think it's star, Hugh Laurie, is wicked cool. I'm sure one of these days I'll catch up on it.

Anyway, I was cruising the interweb the other day and came across a great shot of Mr. Laurie and thought "he'd make a cool zombie."

And that, boys and girls, is the story of how Brett was inspired to put aside his design work that needs to be done in order to frolic and skip once again in the land of moaning, shuffling, brain-eating undead.

Aim high. Run fast. Enjoy.

Something Else That's Cool

Recently, I posted my autographed picture of Andrew Lincoln, aka 'Rick' from AMC's "The Walking Dead." I squealed like a girl scout that sold her last box of cookies that day... But for some reason, I have never posted my autographs of Max Brooks!

A couple of years back, Max did a personal appearance at a local university, so a buddy of mine and myself packed up and made the trek to meet the zombie expert himself. It was an amazing day. Max was a terrific speaker, educating a packed house on the necessities for survival should the zombies come. And when it was all said and done, he greeted his fans with a book signing!

Of course he had no idea that he'd be receiving a gift from B'hold Designs!!

He greeted me with a handshake, was very patient as I pulled out three books for him to sign, and then wrote something different in each one. In the first, he wrote "Brett - do not surrender. They don't take prisoners" (wise words indeed, for they really don't). In the next he wrote "Brett - hunt, slay, repopulate"(sounds like a full day).

Before he wrote in the third book, he glanced up at my shirt (I was wearing the same design I brought for him) and he commented on it. It was then I showed him I brought one as a gift and he then wrote simply "Brett - great shirt, thanks" and even posed for a picture with it. The face he's making makes me laugh. I'm not sure he's convinced it would work in an actual zombie apocalypse.

It was cool, and he was really nice, and I hope our paths will cross again one day... perhaps while running for our lives from a rampaging, rapidly gaining horde of mouth-foaming undead. Wouldn't that be cool?!

Marketing of the Dead

Zombie fever is everywhere, and I am loving it. Marketing people see this and naturally take advantage resulting in zombie commercials. Below are just a few. Some I've seen, some I haven't, and a couple that I don't think ever made it on air. The one by FedEx is my favorite.

Enjoy.

Happy Friday the 13th!

What's that noise? And why did the power go out while I was taking a shower? It must be because it's every psychopaths favorite day....Friday the 13th!

Every since the first Friday the 13th film came out waaaaay back in 1980, we've been afraid to go camping, hiking, or anything that takes place in the deep woods. Sure, some people still go, but I'm sure that when it's dark, and the camp fire is dying out, they think of Jason the same way those who go into the ocean think of Jaws.

Interesting bit of trivia here...did you know Kevin Bacon was in the very first Friday the 13th? It's true! And to answer your question, no, he did not survive. Not only that, his death was particularly creepy! Don't believe me? Check out the clip below (warning! it's not for the squeamish):

Maybe Jason was trying to show Kevin the dangers of smoking in bed. I'm sure his entire killing spree was just a misunderstanding (speaking of, check out the hilarious movie Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.... talk about your misunderstandings!)

So go out and grab some classic Friday films for the night. There's a great Friday the 13th remake that somehow made Jason even scarier that came out a couple of years back (that's it's film poster at the top of this post). It's even got the gratuitous drug references and nude scenes that made 80's horror films great!

Aim high. Run fast. Watch for machetes.

Brett

BY THE WAY....You know what they call the tough-as-nails ladies that survive these films, don't you? They're "Scream Queens." And now, YOU can be one too! Just check out the gear HERE!

Put On Your Party Hats!

Hey everyone! Get ready to pin the brain on the zombie and ready the spanking machine! This Blog is officially ONE YEAR OLD!

Yes it was one year ago today that I had decided to subject the world to my rambling thoughts and sarcasm, and I think, we're all a little better for it... (or I am, according to my therapist).

It all started with THIS little confession about zombies, and has since traveled on to SENSATIONAL SELL-EBRITIES, encounters with GHOSTHUNTERS, autographs from a DIRECTOR and a walker-slaying BRIT, zombified DWIGHT SCHRUTE, CONAN O'BRIEN, and FRIENDS stars, and even a frustration-fueled rant on one of my PET PEEVES.

During this time I've gathered some wonderful followers. THANK YOU so much for coming here time and time again in hopes that I'll say something relevant and worthwhile, and I apologize for letting you down. Maybe one day I'll surprise you, but don't hold your breath. I'm not that deep.

Want some party favors? Check it out! I've got free wallpapers for your electronic web-surfing machines! I've created two NEW designs for your amusement! Feel free to download them and install them on your computer, but don't keep them all for yourself! Go ahead and install them on the computers of your family and friends. Can you imagine grandma's joyful expression when she turns on her computer and finds one of my designs staring back at her? Ah, the joy of giving.

So what does the future hold for this blog and B'hold Designs in general? Beats me. I'm not psychic. Although, I will say that I am inching ever closer to a line of phone and laptop skins! Hopefully within the next couple of months I'll be able to make a really cool announcement about that, and I'm currently working on an updated look to my website. OH!! And I have plans to launch a really cool line of zombie-related designs (posters/prints... maybe clothing) that will hopefully amuse as well as disgust.

And what, you might ask, would I like for this monumental event in blog history? Nothing really. I just ask that you shout the news of the B'hold Designs blog to all who will listen. And when they won't listen, just shout louder and louder until you hear sirens, then run away.

Now relax and enjoy yourself! I've got lots of drinks in the fridge and there's a jar of peanut butter around here somewhere! Crank up the tunes I've posted below, and go crazy!

Aim high. Run fast. Party on!

Biceps of the Dead

You know who Ving Rhames is, right? You should. He's only been in about a zillion movies, including "Pulp Fiction" and the "Mission Impossible's" just to name a couple.

BUT, did you know that he is (I'm assuming) a fan of the undead? Not only did he star as a policeman in the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead", but he put on an army uniform for the 2008 reworking of "Day of the Dead." But that's not all! He also took center stage in a 2011 SyFy original called "Zombie Apocalypse."

I have never met Mr. Rhames, nor have I seen any interviews with him where he discusses his love for all things undead, but come on... three zombie films? That's gotta mean something, right?

I'd send him one of my shirts but I'm not sure there's enough fabric to wrap around his python like arms!

Want to See Something Cool?

A few weeks back I sent out a little B'hold Designs "Care Package." It was a shirt with my best selling design (see it HERE) and a letter of thanks for a job well done to Andrew Lincoln, star of AMC's hit show "The Walking Dead."

Imagine my delight when I opened my mail today to see a really cool autographed image of Mr. Lincoln with a personalized message that reads "Many thanks for the t-shirt Brett. Best wishes to you and your family. Andrew Lincoln"

Cool, huh? The fact that he'd take the time to write a short, personal reply speaks volumes about him.

I've sent similar packages to a few others in the past. After season one, I sent then-director Frank Darabont a shirt as well and got a great thank you note  (See the whole story HERE). A few months ago I sent one to Robert Kirkman, and several weeks ago, I sent a couple of water bottles with the same zombie design and THIS zombified image to Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. I haven't heard anything back from the three of them, but while I remain hopeful, I don't expect a reply. You just never know how much stuff they get from fans, if they have the time to write something, or if they even SEE it, so to get something like this always makes me giddy as a school girl.

So thank you, Mr. Lincoln, for all you do to bring "The Walking Dead" to life!

Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus Interviews

Andrew Lincoln is a great actor. I say that because this clip of him on Letterman doesn't seem anything like his character of Rick Grimes on AMC's "The Walking Dead." He's cleaned up, cleaned shaven, nice suit, and speaking with his native British accent. It's comical to listen to, but it just shows how good he is at doing an authentic American accent.

Check it out:

BONUS:

Here's everyone's favorite zombie slayer, Norman Reedus (aka "Darryl") on G4's "Attack of the Show." I wasn't sure I'd like his character when first introduced, but Mr. Reedus has really taken what other actors might have kept a 2-dimensional, predictable character and created this fantastic, 3-dimensional, angst-ridden walker-slayer with a heart of gold.

Enjoy:

Jon Bernthal on Jimmy Kimmel

Shane Walsh — Love him, or hate him, you have to admit that character added some serious spice to the mix on AMC's "The Walking Dead." One minute he's professing his love to Rick's wife and coming dangerously close to punching Dale square in the mouth, and the next he's a positive mentor to Carl and teaching Andrea to protect herself. Truly, his was a character we "loved to hate." Well played, Jon.

I haven't had the opportunity to meet Mr. Bernthal, but based on these clips from his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, I'd say he's one cool guy.

Check it out...

Undead Sophia...Behind the Scenes!

With Season 2 of AMC's "The Walking Dead" officially in the books, and about 7 months of waiting to go before Season 3 is ready, it's fun to think back on some of the more monumental moments that helped mold the lives and personalities of our favorite band of survivors.

A BIG one, was the discovery of little Sophia as an undead barn walker.

Take a look at the making of that episode, and the special FX make-up work that went into zombifying the shy little girl that was, quite likely, Carl's only shot at having a girlfriend...ever.

Enjoy.

Say Cheese!

Everybody knows someone like this. That one person who reverts to 'class clown' the minute someone pulls out a camera and throws up two fingers behind the head of the person next to him. Maybe there's one in your family, maybe it's a close friend... maybe it's you!

My dad was the one in our family. Nearly every photo from my youth has dad giving the person next to him bunny ears. Most of the time it made me laugh, and now that he's gone, it is one of my favorite memories.

So I dare you, oh loyal fans of B'hold Designs! The next time you find yourself getting ready to say cheese for a picture with grandma, your child, or your BFF... DARE to be annoying! DARE to be cliche! DARE to dust off the oldest photo gag in the book and make it your own! And KNOW that when you do, the eyerolls coming from your victim aren't disapproval... but applause.
