Zombies are on everyone's 'braaaainsss' right now. They're at the height of popularity and fans like myself are loving it. Long laughed at as ridiculous and comical, authors like Max Brooks have brought respect to the idea of the dead rising from their graves, and other entertainment entities have been taking notice.
Did you ever think you'd see a show on cable tv that's as amazing, dramatic, frightening, horrifying and incredibly well done as AMC's "The Walking Dead?" Neither did I.
Did you ever think you'd live to see the day that a beloved cultural icon like Bill Murray would make a surprise appearance in a zombie movie? Neither did I.
Did you ever think you'd hear about a drug that alters the mind in such a way that it makes the abuser crave human FLESH?? Me either.
Did you ever think you would see Brad Pitt fighting over the rights to a zombie novel and dumping huge amounts of money into putting it on screen? Dude, I NEVER saw that coming.
When you take all of that, and sprinkle in some reality shows about people obsessed with preparing for the end of the world, it only makes sense that a show about zombie preppers would be right around the corner.
Coming Tuesday, December 18th, the Discovery Channel is airing a documentary special entited "Zombie Apocalypse" which will examine whether an undead invasion is actually possible, AND introduces four people from different backgrounds who are prepping just for that possibility.
They include a mom who teaches her kids about fighting zombies and is fortifying her home from such an attack, and a man in Kansas who is the founder of an "Anti-Zombie Militia" with a stockpile of supplies in a secret location.
The picture above is from the show, and judging by the look of the fella, he's channeling both Tallahassee and Daryl Dixon. Smart man.
Aim high. Run fast. Tune in.
