Bring the Teacher An Appendage

Remember not so long ago when I introduced you to the teacher who uses zombies to teach middle school geography? Apparently that idea is catching on like the undead virus itself!

The online class platform, Instructure, is capitalizing on the popularity of zombies in a big way. By reaching out to UC Irvine, and AMC (our pals that host "The Walking Dead"), they have successfully created a partnership for a FREE MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) based on the world's most amazing show.... "The Walking Dead."

That's right... four faculty members have officially signed to examine social structures, public health, physics and math... all based on a zombie apocalypse. Instructure co-founder Brian Whitmer gives an awesome example.... "A little girl gets her head decapitated in one swing... in physics, could that have really happened?"

Other topics include public health and the CDC in an apocalyptic world, and mathematics by modifying existing equations for how disease spreads to account for zombie mechanics.

Whitmer goes on to say: "We kept talking about doing a pop culture course and 'The Walking Dead' kept coming up, so we cold-called AMC, and they said they'd love to partner, and they'll provide clips."

Cool, right? I guess now we can officially add "brains" to the list of back-to-school supplies!
