Trending Now...

Have you ever wondered what someone else is thinking? I'm not talking about when someone cuts you off in traffic, or your child paints a curse word on grandma's wall. I'm talking about at the core of their being... what is it that concerns that person? What drives them. Or maybe more importantly... what is it that scares them? Because fear can be an amazing motivator.

To the left is a screen capture from my computer taken today of what Yahoo says is "trending now." See what's in that circle? Why, do you think, would people be concerned about a zombie apocalypse? It seems that an apocalypse of any kind is in the back of a lot of people's minds these days... but a zombie apocalypse? That's not possible. Right?

Could it be that people are reading a little much into the immense popularity of zombies right now? Maybe people are confusing those images with the National Geographic show "Doomsday Preppers." As of this writing, the Doomsday Dashboard for that reality program states the #2 scenario concerning folks right now is some kind of pandemic... a sickness.. maybe a virus? Hmm.

If that's the case, maybe those same people that are concerned have seen THIS ARTICLE that states how a full on zombie apocalypse is scientifically possible. (despite the fact this article is from Cracked.com)

Maybe they saw THIS ARTICLE yesterday about a crazed man eating the face of another man. Apparently, he wouldn't respond to police (except to growl) and was killed.

Personally, I don't believe we're in any danger of a horde of undead shuffling thru our city streets. But, it's a bizarre world we live in. And it's growing even more bizarre by the day. So I guess when I consider that, I'm kind of surprised zombie apocalypse wasn't number ONE on the list.

Two Step Zombie Plan

Ever make extensive plans to do something? A vacation perhaps...a trip....maybe a family gathering? Did those plans ever drop down the toilet when the time came?

Most likely it wasn't anything you had done, but simply the wild card unpredictable nature of another person or even nature itself. Maybe it rained on your camping trip....maybe Uncle Leon barfed in the rental car... it could be anything.

More often than not, meticulously laid plans blow up in our faces. And so could it be when the zombies come! You might have your armored vehicle stocked with gas cans and granola bars, but if the roads are closed what do you do? Maybe you have a safe room, wired and ready to move into, but what if the power is out?

My point is there are only two things you can put on your to do list that you can count on, and I've summed it up on my new 2 STEP ZOMBIE PLAN design...

1. Prepare for the Worst
2. Hope for the Best

So, come by THE SHOP before the next zombie survivalist ice cream social and watch smirks of doubt transform into nods of agreement!

Another Teaser from AMC!

Look alive "Walking Dead" fans! AMC has graciously tossed another scrap from their table. Below is a video with the cast on the set of SEASON THREE!! Only four-ish months to go before it all hits the fan!

Remember when I sent Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) one of my shirts? (story here)... I was really hoping to see it in the video. He could have worn it in that opening greeting, right? After all, it might just keep his noggin safe thru this whole zombie apocalypse mess.

Happy Memorial Day

I hope you all have a terrific holiday, and don't forget to take a moment to remember those that paid the ultimate price to provide us all with the freedoms that we enjoy today.

That's my dad pictured here. He was a career military man that served in Korea and Vietnam. I'm extremely proud of him and his accomplishments, and miss him very much.

So, if you see a member of our armed forces, shake their hand and thank them for their willingness to serve this great nation.

Thank you, brave soldiers of our nations military. We appreciate you.

Tomb Raider

Not long ago, I posted an exercise in manipulating the eyes to look more zombie-like (here). I felt it was time again to find an image with menacing eyes that I could really dig into, and I found this one of Angelina Jolie, in what looks like a promotion shot for "Tomb Raider."

I found it fitting on two levels... one being her great eyes to work with.. the second being the fact that she's a TOMB raider.. get it? Tomb?  Zombies? Sorry.

Anyway, here are the results. Hope you like it!

Sweepstakes Time!

Remember how I mentioned that AMC was rationing out tidbits of information about their hit show "The Walking Dead" to keep us satisfied until Season Three premiers in October? Well, here's another one, and it could be awesome!

How would you like to go to the premiere of season three of AMC's "The Walking Dead"? Would you also like to meet the cast? How about a little side trip to KNB EFX, Greg Nicotero's Studio where they will make a cast of you as a WALKER for a one-of-a-kind lifesize bust?!?

Well it could ALL be yours (plus $500 spending money) if you win the amazing drawing they're hosting RIGHT NOW! Click on  THIS LINK and enter to win!

Aim high. Run fast. Good luck (because I've already entered).

Keeping An Eye Out for Zombies!

Hey everyone!

I apologize for letting several days go by without a post. I think once I saw that production work on AMC's "The Walking Dead" was officially underway, I just bounced around in my office chair for a couple of days and forgot the world.

I don't know if you've noticed, but my zombies are evolving a bit. If you see some of my earlier work, you'll probably notice a difference in the flesh tones, the scarring, and the eyes especially. In the beginning, I'd basically white out the eyes as if they didn't exist anymore. The effect was a little flat and not what I was hoping for, so slowly I changed some things. Which brings me to my latest image.

I wanted to experiment specifically with the eyes as a practice, and was really excited to find an image online that I thought would work perfectly for my experiment. I personally think it's an improvement, and hope you do, too.

Like the fly?

Big news for fans of AMC's "The Walking Dead": Today, May 7th, 2012, production work on Season Three officially starts!!!

Run for Your Lives!

I love, love, LOVE how zombies have exploded in popularity! There are more books than you can count, an amazing television show, movies, toys, games, LIVE games, and now the "Run for Your Lives" 5k obstacle race in Amesbury, Massachusetts!

You heard me. A 5k run while being chased by zombies. Apparently while you run, zombies chase you and try to take "health flags" that are attached at your belt! It features man-made and natural obstacles as well. Just look at these photos. How freaking
awesome does that look?
You can go HERE for a slideshow of more pictures from the event, or HERE for their website. Apparently this goes on in several cities.

I don't run anymore (unless trying to catch my balance on the stairs), but it would be great to participate as a zombie, huh?

Check it out! Here's a promo video for the event!

If Only...

Being in graphic design for a living puts me elbow deep in Adobe Photoshop every day, so I'm always up for fun jokes/videos about the software.

Wouldn't you know some smarty-pants at CollegeHumor has developed a great video featuring a new Photoshop tool? Too bad it's just a joke, because it would be an AWESOME addition to the program.

Enjoy.

Looking Ahead to Season 3...

Everybody ok? It's been just over a month since the end of AMC's "The Walking Dead" season 2, and I for one have just about come out of my withdrawals. Hopefully you all are as well.

Unfortunately, it's still about six months until the beginning of season 3, so in the mean time we have to pace ourselves so we can make it thru the long haul. How do we do that? By learning to survive on the bits and pieces thrown out to us by the show's creators to keep us from "starving" to death.

And here's one now... the cast looks ahead to season 3 and what it may mean for their characters.

Savor the flavor.

Zombie Bite!

Who says the zombie apocalypse has to be horrifying all the time? I mean, sure, there's the whole 'undead taking over the world - end of civilization as we know it' thing, but who's to say we can't take in an occasional board game once in a while?

Here's a bit from our pals at CollegeHumor.com showing just how easy it can be.

Enjoy.
